Released for Ardbeg Day during Feis Ile 2019, Ardbeg Drum is an Islay single malt Scotch aged first in ex-bourbon barrels, then finished in ex-rum casks. The rum cask sets this general release apart, bottled at 92 proof: ripe banana, pineapple, and cocoa sit over the distillery's signature woodsmoke, with slow hints of ginger, cinnamon, and lavender. The palate turns spicier — black pepper, clove, and liquorice against dark chocolate and deep peat — before a long, sweet-and-smoky finish. One of Islay's most sought-after annual bottlings, it drinks best neat with a few drops of water to lift the fruit. Pour it when you want peat with a tropical twist.
