About this bottle
Big Peat is a blended malt Scotch whisky from independent bottler Douglas Laing, vatting single malts drawn entirely from Islay distilleries — long-running batches have included Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila and stocks from the closed Port Ellen distillery. It's built as a showcase of Islay peat character rather than a single house style. The nose is heavy smoke, brine and iodine; the palate brings bonfire smoke, citrus peel and a touch of vanilla sweetness from the vatting, finishing long, dry and smoky. It's a reliable way to taste Islay's peated house styles side by side in one glass.
How to drink Big Peat
Neat or with a splash of water is the classic call, but it also stands up in a smoky Penicillin-style cocktail if you want the peat to carry the drink.

Questions about this bottle
What distilleries are in the blend?
Batches have drawn on Islay houses including Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila, and stocks from the closed Port Ellen distillery; exact recipes vary by batch.
Is this too smoky for a beginner?
It's assertively peated, so it suits drinkers already comfortable with Islay whisky rather than a first taste of Scotch.
