About this bottle

Don Amado is one of the older commercial mezcal producers in Oaxaca, distilling since the 1990s at Hacienda Real de Minas near Santiago Matatlán using traditional stone ovens and a mule-powered tahona. Arroqueño is a wild agave species that takes 15 to 25 years to mature — dramatically longer than the roughly 7-8 years espadín needs — which makes mezcal made from it inherently limited and more expensive, since so few plants are ready to harvest at any given time. Expect a genuinely complex, earthy mezcal with layered smoke and mineral character that reflects both the wild agave and the decades of growth behind each bottle, rather than the more straightforward profile of espadín-based mezcal.

How to drink Don Amado Arroqueño

Sip it neat and slowly — a wild agave this rare and slow-growing deserves to be tasted without dilution or mixing. Take your time with each sip rather than treating it as a cocktail ingredient.

What is Arroqueño agave?

It's a wild, slow-maturing agave species that can take 15 years or more to reach harvest, prized by mezcal producers for a fuller, more complex flavor than faster-growing espadín.
