Dona Loca Mezcal Espadin 750 ml

Dona Loca Espadin is an Oaxacan mezcal built on espadin, the agave behind most of the state's output and the variety that shows a producer's hand most clearly. The smoke in the glass comes from cooking the agave hearts over hot rock in an earthen pit, not from any added flavouring, and espadin carries that character without losing its sweetness. The nose is green agave, wet stone and citrus peel. The palate runs roasted agave and grilled pineapple with black pepper and a saline edge through the middle. The finish is dry, mineral and long. Sip it neat at room temperature with orange and sal de gusano, or build a mezcal negroni.
