About this bottle
Desert Door Original is a Texas sotol, distilled from wild-harvested sotol plants native to the Chihuahuan Desert rather than agave, by a Driftwood, Texas distillery founded by three Texas A&M graduates who set out to revive a nearly lost regional spirit. The plants are roasted, mashed, fermented, distilled, and then aged briefly in new American oak. Expect roasted, earthy notes up front, a palate of caramel and light oak, and a clean, slightly herbal finish that sets it apart from tequila or mezcal. It's a good pick for anyone curious about lesser-known agave-adjacent spirits or looking for a distinctly Texan bottle.
How to drink Desert Door Texas Sotol
Sip it neat or on the rocks the way you'd approach a blanco tequila or mezcal — the light oak time keeps it approachable that way. It also makes a solid swap for tequila in a Paloma or Ranch Water if you want a change of pace.

Questions about this bottle
How should sotol be served?
Neat or on the rocks, similar to a blanco tequila or mezcal, lets its roasted, earthy character come through clearly.
What cocktails work well with Desert Door Sotol?
It swaps easily into a Paloma or a Ranch Water in place of tequila, and holds up fine in a simple margarita-style mix.
What exactly is sotol, and is it the same as agave spirits?
Sotol comes from the Dasylirion plant, a desert succulent related to but distinct from agave, so it's a cousin to tequila and mezcal rather than a member of the same family.
Who makes Desert Door?
It's produced by a distillery in Driftwood, Texas, founded by three Texas A&M graduates aiming to revive sotol as a serious Texas spirit.
