This is The Block Distilling Co's aperitif liqueur, made in Denver in the style that Italian bars built the spritz on — bitter citrus and roots, sweetened just enough, kept lower in strength so it can be drunk before a meal rather than after. It sits on the lighter, brighter side of the bitter family, closer to a red bitter aperitivo than to an amaro. Bitter orange, rhubarb and light florals on the nose; grapefruit pith, gentian and candied citrus on the palate; a clean bitter finish that refreshes instead of weighing you down. Build a spritz with sparkling wine and soda, or lengthen it with tonic.
