About this bottle

The oldest rye in WhistlePig's stable, the 18 Year Double Malt is the Vermont company's flagship statement of what long-aged rye whiskey can become. Eighteen years in oak sand down rye's sharp edges into something closer to a fine cognac: toasted almond, caramel, and a whisper of smoked maple on the nose, then barely sweet grassy spice with a soft honey note underneath. Dried fruit carries the finish long past the sip. It is released in annual editions, each one topped with a handmade Vermont glass stopper, and quantities stay small. At this age the math is simple — most rye never sees half these years in wood. Reserve it for neat pours and the people who will notice.

How to drink WhistlePig 18 Year Double Malt Rye

A splash of water opens the PX sherry cask finish more than ice ever could, coaxing out dried fig and toffee alongside the almond and maple. Save it for sipping after dinner rather than reaching for a mixing glass — at this price and age, cocktails would bury what eighteen years built.
