Ardbeg An Oa is a no-age-statement single malt from the Islay distillery, named for the Mull of Oa headland on the island. Rather than one cask type, An Oa blends whisky matured across ex-bourbon barrels, Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, and virgin charred oak, then finishes it in a specially built oak vat called the Gathering Room to marry the components before bottling. That multi-cask approach softens Ardbeg's usual heavy peat into a rounder, sweeter smoke than the flagship Ten. Expect dark chocolate, toffee, and smoke rather than a raw, medicinal hit. It suits drinkers who want Ardbeg's peat with a gentler on-ramp.
