Black Market Rye is a rye whiskey with five years behind it, enough time in charred oak for the grain's sharp edges to soften without losing the bite that makes rye worth drinking in the first place. The nose is classic for the style: rye spice, a note of dill and vanilla drawn from the wood. On the palate black pepper and mint sit up front, with toasted grain and a caramel undertow behind them, and the finish is dry, spicy and medium-long rather than sweet. Five year rye is the sweet spot for cocktails. Take it neat if spice is your thing, or let it carry a Sazerac or a Vieux Carre.
