Equiano Dark comes from the Equiano rum project, which blends rum made at Foursquare in Barbados with rum from Gray's in Mauritius, an Africa-meets-Caribbean pairing named for Olaudah Equiano, the writer and abolitionist. The range is bottled without added sugar or spice, so whatever sweetness reaches the glass is coming from cane and cask rather than from a dosage after the fact. Expect a nose of molasses, dried banana and toasted oak, a palate of brown sugar, raisin, cocoa and warm baking spice, and a dry, medium-long finish. This gift box makes it easy to hand over. Sip it neat, over a cube, or in a rum old fashioned.
