About this bottle

Rooster Rojo Mezcal Artesanal Joven is produced in Oaxaca, Mexico from 100% espadin agave, roasted in traditional earthen pits before being crushed and distilled in copper pot stills — the same artisanal method mezcaleros have used for generations. That pit-roasting is where the category's signature smoke comes from, layered here over a base of cooked agave sweetness, dried herbs, and a faint minerality. It's an unaged (joven) mezcal, so the agave and smoke sit right up front rather than behind years of oak. It's a solid entry point for someone new to mezcal, and versatile enough to hold its own in a smoky cocktail.

How to drink Rooster Rojo Mezcal

Sip it neat in a small copita with orange slices and a pinch of sal de gusano if you have it — the traditional Oaxacan way to cut the smoke. It also stands up well in a Mezcal Paloma, or swapped into a Margarita for a smokier riff.
