The name on Shenk's Homestead Kentucky Sour Mash Whiskey reaches back to 1753, when Swiss Mennonite farmer John Shenk founded the Pennsylvania distillery that would eventually become Michter's. Today's Shenk's honors that history as an annual limited release: a Kentucky sour mash whiskey — a bourbon-adjacent style free to use barrels bourbon cannot — with a component matured in specially toasted oak that changes by vintage, chinquapin one year, air-dried French oak another.
