This is an eight-year-old peated single malt from the Isle of Arran distillery at Lochranza, drawn from a single bourbon cask numbered 153141 and bottled by the independent bottler Single Cask Nation. Arran's peated make is the exception at a distillery better known for unpeated malt, and ex-bourbon wood keeps the whole thing bright rather than heavy. The nose is wood smoke, lemon and vanilla; the palate is sweet barley and pear cut with campfire ash and a little pepper; the finish is dry, smoky and medium-long. One cask means one shot at it. Pour it neat with a drop of water and take your time.
