Montana Rye is Stonehouse Distillery's rye whiskey, made in a state with a genuine claim on the grain — Montana grows some of the best rye in the country, and small distilleries there have it close at hand. Rye brings pepper and herbal lift where corn brings sweetness, and a small-batch version like this one tends to show that grain sharply rather than smoothing it away. Expect a nose of dill, mint and light caramel, a palate of black pepper, rye bread and orange peel over a firm body, and a dry, spicy finish.
