Uncle Nearest Green Tennessee Straight Whiskey is named for Nathan 'Nearest' Green, the enslaved and later free master distiller who taught Jack Daniel the charcoal-mellowing process now known as the Lincoln County Process, a role only widely credited in recent years. The brand, founded by Fawn Weaver, produces its whiskey using that same charcoal filtering method, which mellows the spirit before barrel ageing and is the defining technical marker of Tennessee whiskey as distinct from bourbon made elsewhere. Aged at least seven years in charred oak, it delivers caramel, vanilla, and oak with a smooth, mellow character from the charcoal step.

How to drink Uncle Nearest Green

Pour it neat or on the rocks to let the charcoal-mellowed smoothness lead without much else getting in the way. It also builds a rounder Old Fashioned than a harsher young whiskey would, since the Lincoln County Process softens the edges going in.
