About this bottle
Backbone The Forge is a blended bourbon whiskey built from straight bourbon aged five to seven years, an eight-year rye, and a fourteen-year light whiskey, brought together and bottled at 110 proof. The three components add up to a whiskey with more layers than a single-barrel release: caramel and toasted oak up front from the bourbon, black pepper and mint from the rye, and a mellow, almost brandy-like sweetness from the aged light whiskey underneath. The finish is long, warm, and a little spicy. It's a whiskey for someone who wants to taste what a deliberate blend can do that a single mash bill can't, rather than a straightforward sipping bourbon.
How to drink Backbone The Forge
Neat or with one rock — the blend's layers are easiest to pick apart without much dilution. It's proofy enough to stand up in a Manhattan if you want to see how the rye component plays against the vermouth.
