About this bottle

Asombroso Especial de Rouge is an extra añejo tequila distilled from 100% blue Weber agave in Jalisco, then finished in Cognac casks after its time in American oak — the cross-category cask finish that defines Asombroso's "Rouge" expressions. That Cognac resting layers dried fruit, toffee, and a trace of grape brandy over the tequila's baked-agave core, giving it a rounder, less overtly agave-forward profile than a standard extra añejo. Deep amber in color, with caramel, vanilla, and light oak spice carrying through to a long, warming finish. Best suited to sippers already familiar with extra añejo tequila who want to taste what a Cognac cask adds.

How to drink Asombroso Especial de Rouge

Pour it neat in a tulip glass to let the Cognac-cask influence open up — ice mutes the fruit and toffee notes this expression is built around. If you want it in a cocktail, use it in place of añejo in an Old Fashioned riff rather than a Margarita; the brandy-like sweetness holds up better with bitters and orange oil than with lime.

Questions about this bottle

Does tequila need to be refrigerated after opening?

No. Tequila is a distilled spirit with no residual sugars to referment, so a resealed bottle of Especial de Rouge keeps well at room temperature out of direct light, no fridge required.

What does 'Extra Añejo' mean for a tequila like this one?

Extra Añejo is Mexico's oldest-designation tequila category, requiring a minimum of three years in oak. Especial de Rouge is aged roughly ten years, first in American oak and then finished in Cognac casks.

What's the ABV of Asombroso Especial de Rouge?

It's bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof), the same strength as most standard tequilas.
