Nikka Yoichi Single Malt 2019 Limited Edition comes from the Yoichi distillery on Hokkaido, one of two malt distilleries behind Nikka's whisky lineup (the other being Miyagikyo). As a single malt, it uses only whisky distilled at Yoichi itself, made in the coal-fired pot stills the distillery is known for — one of the last places in the world still using direct coal firing, which gives the spirit a heavier, more robust character than steam-heated stills typically produce. Yoichi single malts tend toward maritime, slightly smoky notes alongside dried fruit and toffee. This limited 2019 release is aimed at collectors and Nikka completists rather than casual drinkers.

How to drink Nikka Yoichi Single Malt

Try it neat first to catch the coal-fired distillery character, then add a few drops of water if you want the dried fruit and toffee notes to open further. It's substantial enough to skip ice.
