About this bottle
DESCRIPTION
Aberfeldy 18 Year Old Sangiovese Cask is a Highland single malt finished in first-fill casks that once held Sangiovese — the Tuscan red grape behind Chianti. Eighteen years in refill and hogshead casks build the distillery's honeyed, orchard-fruit base; the Sangiovese finish layers red fruit over the top, turning the whisky toward ripe cherry, red plum, and fig. Master blender Stephanie MacLeod bottles it at 46%, non-chill filtered and natural color, so the texture stays full and the rosy tint comes straight from the cask. Expect dark chocolate, clove, and roasted hazelnut alongside the honey. It's a limited release from the Red Wine Cask Collection, gone once it sells through. Drink it neat, in a glass with room, and give it a few minutes to open.
TASTING NOTES
Color: Amber with a rosy blush.
Nose: Honey and strawberry, baked apple and dark cherry, with sandalwood and nutmeg behind.
Palate: Red fruit compote over rich malt — ripe cherry, red plum, and fig, then dark chocolate, clove, and roasted hazelnut.
Finish: Long, soft spice and oak, closing on cherry.
HOW TO DRINK
Neat is the move — at 46%, non-chill filtered, it has the body to show the wine cask without help. A drop of water lifts the red fruit and softens the spice if you want it. This is a slow, after-dinner pour; the sweetness and dark-chocolate depth let it stand in for dessert.
