About this bottle
Akido Rkatsiteli Qvevri is a Georgian amber wine, white grapes fermented on their skins in qvevri, the egg-shaped clay vessels buried to the neck in earth that Georgia has used for several thousand years. Rkatsiteli is the country's workhorse white grape, and extended skin contact turns it copper and gives it a grip that a conventionally made white never has. The nose runs to dried apricot, walnut skin, orange peel and a little beeswax. The palate is dry and tannic, with quince, black tea and a faintly bitter edge, and the finish is long and savoury. Serve it cool rather than cold in a proper wine glass, with roast chicken or aged cheese.
