Andong Jinmaek Soju Poet's Rock Reserve is a traditional Korean distilled soju from Andong, a city with its own centuries-old soju tradition and a style that has almost nothing in common with the cheap green-bottle version sold abroad. Traditional Andong soju is distilled from grain and bottled at genuine strength, without the heavy dilution and added sweeteners of the mass-market product, so it reads much closer to a clean grain spirit than to a mixer. The nose is steamed rice, green apple and a light floral note. The palate is clean but full, with rice sweetness, sesame and a faint nutty warmth, and the finish is dry and lingering. Serve it chilled in a small cup alongside grilled meat.
