Angel's Envy Small Batch Rye is a limited release built from a small marrying of barrels rather than a full production run. The house signature is the finish: rye whiskey moved into Caribbean rum casks, which pushes sweetness into a grain that normally runs dry and sharp. Working in small batches tightens that further, since the casks can be selected to pull in the same direction. The nose is molasses, dried banana and rye spice with a vanilla lift. The palate is sweet before it turns, running brown sugar and baked fruit into black pepper and a mint-cool edge, and the finish is long and gently drying. Serve it neat, or in a Manhattan built with dry vermouth.
