Asombroso Extra anejo 5 year Gran Reserva

Asombroso Gran Reserva is an extra anejo tequila aged five years, well past the three year minimum the category asks for, and it drinks like a spirit that spent all of that time in wood. The long rest pulls the color deep amber and trades the pepper of a young agave spirit for something rounder and slower. The nose runs to butterscotch, dried fig and vanilla; the palate is soft and sweet with caramel, toasted almond and baked apple over cooked agave; the finish is long and gently spiced. This is a sipping bottle, not a mixing one. Serve it neat at room temperature in a copita or a brandy glass.
