Pure Scot Midnight Peat is the smoky bottling in Bladnoch's blended scotch range, pairing peated malt with grain whisky so the smoke arrives with a softer landing than a straight island malt would give. Blends built this way are meant to be approachable, and this one keeps the peat as a layer rather than a wall. The nose is woodsmoke, a hint of brine and toasted cereal. The palate is soft peat and ash carried on honeyed malt and vanilla, with the grain smoothing the edges, and the finish is dry, smoky and lingering. It mixes better than most peated whisky. Pour it neat over ice, or lengthen it into a smoky highball with soda.
