Bodega Cat Rye Whiskey is an American rye with a name lifted straight off a New York corner store counter, and the whiskey inside keeps the same unfussy attitude. Rye is the grain that gave American whiskey its bite before corn took over, and it brings pepper and a green herbal streak that bourbon simply does not have. The nose is rye spice, vanilla and dried herbs. The palate leads with black pepper and mint over caramel and toasted grain, and the finish is dry, peppery and medium in length rather than sweet. This is a bartender's bottle. Drink it neat if you like spice, or pour it into a Manhattan, a Sazerac or a rye highball.
