Caymus Grand Durif 750ml

Grand Durif comes from Caymus-Suisun, the Wagner family's project in Suisun Valley just east of Napa, and it is made from durif — the grape most Americans know as petite sirah. Durif gives some of the darkest, most tannic red wine in California, and this one leans into that. The nose is blueberry, blackberry and violet with sweet oak behind; the palate is dense and inky, with black fruit, dark chocolate, black pepper and a firm tannic frame; the finish is long and grippy. It needs food or air, ideally both. Decant it and pour it alongside brisket, lamb or a peppered steak.
