Charles Krug Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the oldest winery in Napa Valley, founded in 1861 and run by the Peter Mondavi family since 1943. The house style has stayed consistent across those decades: fruit first, structure underneath, and enough restraint that the wine works at a table rather than only in a tasting flight. Cassis and black cherry lead the nose with cedar and a little dried herb behind them. The palate is full but composed, with blackberry, cocoa and fine-grained tannin, and the finish carries oak spice without going dry. Decant it an hour before dinner and pour it with ribeye, or hold bottles a few more years.
