Codigo 1530 Rosa takes its blush colour honestly, resting in uncharred French white oak barrels that previously held Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon rather than picking up any additive. Those wine casks run through the entire Codigo range and are the reason the tequilas carry a red-fruit thread you rarely find elsewhere. The Ranch is a special-label release of the same bottling. Cooked agave, red berry and a light floral lift on the nose; a rounded, softly sweet palate of strawberry, vanilla and white pepper; a clean, dry finish that does not overstay. Serve it well chilled and neat, over a large cube, or shaken into a margarita where the pink actually shows.
