Crown Royal XO is a Canadian whisky finished in cognac casks sourced from France, part of Crown Royal's higher-end extension of its core blended whisky. It's a blend of up to 50 distinct whiskies, each aged a minimum of several years, with the cognac-cask finish adding a layer of dried fruit and oak spice not present in the standard Crown Royal bottling. Expect a deep amber color, dried fruit and spice on the nose, and a rich, smooth palate carrying vanilla and oak into a long finish. Crown Royal has produced its whisky at the Gimli, Manitoba distillery since 1939, originally created to mark King George VI's visit to Canada.

Sip it neat or with a large ice cube — the cognac-cask influence is worth tasting straight, though it also makes a smoother-than-usual whisky sour.
