About this bottle
DESCRIPTION
Devil's Grin is a Texas gin from Trinity River Distillery in Fort Worth, built on a London Dry backbone without the heavy pine. Juniper still leads, but distiller Brett Luchesi macerates 14 botanicals in stages so the flavor rolls out rather than spiking — earthy juniper and cedar first, then citrus and florals, then a warm, faintly sweet finish. The Texas thumbprints are real: toasted mesquite bean for a honeyed, almost chocolatey warmth, plus galangal and cardamom for spice, and it's cut to 88 proof with rainwater collected at the distillery. The corn base keeps it smooth. This is a gin that rewards being tasted, not just mixed — it holds its shape neat or over ice. Pour it in a citrus-forward G&T or a lemon-twist martini, where its botanicals stay in front.
TASTING NOTES
Color: Crystal clear.
Nose: Green juniper and cedar, citrus, and a soft anise lift.
Palate: Round and classic up front, then citrus peel and florals, with cinnamon-ginger spice from galangal.
Finish: Warm and lightly sweet, mesquite and spice fading with a smooth anise trail.
HOW TO DRINK
Juniper-forward enough for a classic gin drinker, but the mesquite-and-spice character comes through best when you don't bury it. Neat or over a single cube shows the whole three-stage arc; in a G&T, reach for a grapefruit or citrus garnish so the botanicals don't get lost under tonic. A lemon-twist martini keeps it clean and lets the gin lead.
