Doc Holliday 13 Year Old spends thirteen years in oak before moving into Armagnac casks for a finishing period, and that second cask is what separates it from the standard release. Armagnac is a rustic French brandy, richer and less polished than cognac, and its casks push bourbon toward dried stone fruit and grape rather than the sherry sweetness a lot of finished whiskey chases. Prune, dark caramel and old oak on the nose; stewed plum, brown sugar, walnut and warm spice on the palate; a long, dry, grape-tinged finish. Drink it neat in a Glencairn, giving it air, so the finishing cask has room to show itself.
