About this bottle
Don Q is made by Destilería Serrallés, a family-owned Puerto Rican company that's been distilling since 1865 and remains the best-selling rum on the island itself, even though it's less recognized in the mainland US than Bacardi. Gold is their aged, oak-matured expression — a blend of rums up to a few years old in American oak — giving it more color and depth than their Cristal white rum, with vanilla, caramel, and brown sugar over a light body. It stays smooth and approachable rather than heavy, in keeping with the light Puerto Rican rum style built for easy mixing.
How to drink Don Q Gold
Use it in a Rum Old Fashioned or a Piña Colada — its light oak character works in both a spirit-forward drink and a blended tropical one. On the rocks with a splash of cola is the classic Puerto Rican house pour too.
