About this bottle
Dubonnet Rouge is a French aromatized, fortified wine aperitif created in the 19th century, flavored with herbs, spices and quinine bark in the same broad category as sweet vermouth, though with its own distinct proprietary recipe. Quinine was originally added for its bitter, medicinal character, a common theme in colonial-era aperitif wines. Expect dried fruit, herbs and a bittersweet quinine edge on the nose, a sweet, wine-forward palate with baking spice, and a lightly bitter, herbal finish. It's most famous as the base of the Dubonnet Cocktail, reportedly a favorite of Queen Elizabeth II.
How to drink Dubonnet Rouge
Serve it simply over ice with a twist of lemon, the classic Dubonnet Cocktail, or mix equal parts with gin for a more spirit-forward variation.
