Egan's Legacy Reserve is a seventeen-year-old Irish single malt bottled by the Egan family, whose spirits business in Tullamore dates to the nineteenth century before the family returned to whiskey in the modern era. Seventeen years is a long stretch for Irish malt, and the extra time shows: triple-distilled softness carried on a deeper, oilier body than the standard Irish shelf offers. Expect orchard fruit and honey on the nose, then baked apple, malt biscuit, vanilla and a light dusting of clove across the palate, with a long, gently drying finish of toasted oak. Drink it neat from a copita, water optional, and give it a few minutes in the glass first.
