About this bottle
El Ateo Añejo is a Mexican tequila aged in oak, a class that requires at least a full year in barrels of under six hundred litres before bottling. That year does real work: the pepper and green herbal snap of a young tequila settle down, the agave turns sweeter and rounder, and the wood contributes vanilla, caramel and a light tannic grip. Expect a nose of cooked agave, caramel and vanilla, a palate of toffee, cinnamon, dried orange peel and soft oak, and a long, warm finish. Serve it neat in a copita at room temperature, or pour it over one large cube in an agave old fashioned.
