About this bottle
El Dorado 12 Year is a Demerara rum from Guyana, produced by Demerara Distillers using rum stocks aged a minimum of 12 years in ex-bourbon barrels. Guyana's Demerara rums are known for coming off some of the last wooden pot stills still in commercial use anywhere in the world, which gives them a heavier, more full-bodied character than most column-still rums. Expect dark caramel, molasses, and dried fruit up front, with toasted oak, coffee, and a touch of licorice underneath, and a long, rich finish typical of well-aged Demerara rum. It's one of the most awarded aged rums on the market and a benchmark bottle for the category. This bottle suits rum drinkers moving up from mixing rums into something meant to be sipped.
How to drink El Dorado 12 Year
Sip it neat or with a single ice cube to let the molasses and dried fruit open up, the way you'd treat an aged whiskey. It also makes an excellent base for a Dark and Stormy if you want to put its depth to work in a cocktail.

Questions about this bottle
How should El Dorado 12 Year be served?
Neat or with a large ice cube in a rocks glass; twelve years in ex-bourbon barrels give it enough depth to sip slowly.

Its molasses and toasted oak richness make a full-bodied rum Old Fashioned, though it's just as often poured neat.
What is 'Demerara rum'?
Demerara rum is named for the Demerara River region of Guyana; El Dorado is distilled by Demerara Distillers, which still operates some of the world's last working wooden pot stills alongside its column stills.
