El Dorado Single Still Enmore 2009 is a 12-year-old Demerara rum from Guyana, distilled on the historic Enmore wooden continuous still — one of the last of its kind still in operation, run by Guyana's Diamond Distillery. Single-still Demerara rums showcase the character of one specific still type rather than El Dorado's usual multi-still blends, and the wooden Enmore still is known for a rounder, more vegetal profile than the metal coffey stills used elsewhere. Expect coconut, vanilla and coffee on the nose with black pepper and wood notes, oranges, clove, treacle and chocolate through the palate, and a warm, honeyed finish.
How to drink El Dorado Enmore 2009
Sip it neat the way you would a sipping whiskey — 12 years on a wooden still produces enough complexity that ice mutes more than it helps. Several reviewers note it drinks closer to bourbon in character than a typical rum, so treat it accordingly.
