El Viejito Extra Anejo 750 ML

El Viejito Extra Anejo is a blue agave tequila from Destileria El Viejito in Jalisco, a family-run house that has been distilling since the middle of the last century. Extra anejo is the longest-aged class in tequila, calling for at least three years in oak, and that stretch pushes the spirit toward whiskey territory: the agave is still there, but it arrives wrapped in wood. The nose is caramel, dried fruit and vanilla; the palate is soft and rounded with toffee, cinnamon, toasted nuts and cooked agave underneath; the finish is long and lightly oaky. Serve it neat in a copita or snifter and leave the mixers for the blanco.
