Elena Walch Pinot Grigio comes from Alto Adige in Italy's far north, where alpine altitude and wide day-to-night temperature swings give white wines more acidity and aromatic definition than Pinot Grigio usually gets. The Walch estate, based in Termeno, has been a reference point for the region for decades. This is a dry, unoaked white: pear, green apple and white flowers on the nose, a palate of crisp orchard fruit with a stony mineral core and a hint of almond, and a clean, brisk finish. Serve it well chilled alongside seafood, risotto or a plate of prosciutto, or simply on its own as an aperitif.
