Fiddler Toasted Wheat is a cask-strength straight bourbon from ASW Distillery in Atlanta, built on a wheated recipe and given the toasted-oak treatment. Wheat in place of rye trades pepper for a rounder, softer sweetness, and toasting the wood pushes that further toward vanilla and caramel rather than char. Bottled at cask strength, it arrives undiluted and concentrated: honeyed grain and toasted sugar on the nose, a thick palate of caramel, baked pear and cinnamon, and a long warm finish of oak and toffee. Add a few drops of water to open it up, and drink it neat rather than buried in a mixer.
