Frankie's Rooster Claw Bourbon is a straight-ahead American bourbon, which by law means a corn-led mash aged in new charred oak with nothing added. That new-oak requirement is what makes bourbon taste the way bourbon tastes - the sweetness and the vanilla come out of the wood, not out of a sweetener. Expect a nose of caramel and toasted grain, a palate of vanilla, brown sugar, baked apple and a light dusting of baking spice, and a finish that is warm, oaky and moderate in length. It is an easy pour for a weeknight: neat, over ice, or built into an old fashioned with a wide strip of orange peel.
