Full Curl Straight Rye Small Batch carries eight years in oak, which is where rye starts drinking like something older and darker than the grain alone would suggest. The peppery bite is still there, but it arrives wrapped in wood - leather, cocoa and dried fruit crowding in around the spice. Expect a nose of dark rye bread, dried cherry and toffee, a palate of clove, black pepper, chocolate and oak tannin with a herbal thread running the length of it, and a long dry finish. Pour it neat in a Glencairn and give it ten minutes, or serve it over one large cube after dinner.
