Garrison Brothers Guadalupe is Texas straight bourbon finished in Portuguese port casks, and this bottling arrives at 125.0 proof. The base whiskey matures in Hye, in the Texas Hill Country, where heat drives it hard into new charred oak; the port casks then layer a second, darker kind of sweetness over the top. The nose is dark berry, cocoa and brown sugar; the palate is thick with black cherry, raisin and toasted oak; the finish is long and jammy before it dries out at the edges. At this strength it rewards patience. Pour it neat with a few drops of water, or over one large cube.
