This Green River Kentucky Straight Bourbon is a commemorative release marking the 250th anniversary of the United States Army, bottled by Green River Distilling Co. in Owensboro on a site that has been making whiskey since 1885. Kentucky straight means at least two years in new charred oak, in Kentucky, with nothing added but water. The profile is classic and unfussy: caramel, vanilla and a little orchard fruit on the nose, then brown sugar, baking spice and toasted oak across the palate, with a medium finish of char and sweet grain. Pour it neat for a toast, or build a straightforward old fashioned with an orange peel.
