Grey Goose Altius sits above the core range from the French house that built its name on soft winter wheat from Picardy and spring water drawn at Gensac. Altius is Latin for higher, and the bottling is aimed squarely at the neat pour rather than the cocktail shaker — heavier glass, a smaller run, and a presentation that asks to be sipped rather than shaken. The nose is clean with faint almond and citrus, the palate is soft and rounded with light bread, cream and white pepper, and the finish is cool, dry and long for a vodka. Serve it very cold in a small glass, or in a martini with the barest whisper of vermouth.
