This is a Côtes du Rhône from E. Guigal, one of the Rhône Valley's best-known producers, made from a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre and aged 12 months in oak. Expect a deep ruby color, a nose of blackberry, raspberry and spice, and a full-bodied, smooth palate with dark fruit, licorice and pepper. The finish is long, with notes of tobacco and leather. It's a reliable, food-friendly red built for everyday drinking rather than cellaring.
