About this bottle
Joseph Cartron has been making liqueurs at Nuits-Saint-Georges in Burgundy since 1882, and this one is built around bergamot, the fragrant Calabrian citrus better known from Earl Grey tea. It is a maceration-led style, so the fruit reads as peel and oil rather than juice. The nose is bright and floral, almost perfumed; the palate is clean bitter-sweet citrus with a soft bitterness underneath that keeps it from turning candied; the finish dries out with a faint tea-like note. This is a bar bottle before it is a sipping bottle. Use it to lift a gin sour, add a splash to sparkling wine, or stir it into a Manhattan variation.
