Joseph Cartron Pamplemousse Rose is a pink grapefruit liqueur from the Burgundy house at Nuits-Saint-Georges, made by macerating the fruit so the peel's bitterness survives alongside the juice. That bitterness is the point of it: the nose is fresh cut grapefruit with a floral lift, the palate balances sweet pink flesh against a clean pithy edge, and the finish dries out rather than clinging to the tongue. It gives a drink citrus depth that a squeeze of juice on its own cannot reach. Top it with sparkling wine for a fast aperitif, shake it with gin and lemon, or lengthen it with tonic over plenty of ice.
