About this bottle
Kilchoman Machir Bay is a peated single malt from Kilchoman, a farm distillery on Islay founded in 2005 that grows some of its own barley on-site alongside barley sourced from the Scottish mainland. It's matured mainly in ex-bourbon casks with a portion finished in oloroso sherry casks, then vatted together, giving it Islay's signature peat smoke without being entirely estate-grown barley. Expect smoke and vanilla on the nose, with citrus, malt sweetness, and a light sherry note on the palate, finishing with lingering peat. It's a good middle-ground Islay malt for drinkers who want peat without going as intense as Laphroaig or Ardbeg.
How to drink Kilchoman Machir Bay
Neat is the standard serve, ideally in a tulip-shaped glass that concentrates the smoke and citrus together; a splash of water is fine if the peat feels sharp on first pour.
