About this bottle
Killowen is a tiny distillery in the Mourne Mountains of County Down, running direct-fired pot stills at a scale most Irish producers left behind decades ago. This single malt takes its name from its rum cask maturation, and the influence is easy to spot the moment it hits the glass. The nose is raisin, molasses and baked banana; the palate is rich and sweet with dried fruit, brown sugar and a little cocoa sitting over the malt's underlying cereal weight; the finish is long, sweet and faintly spiced. Releases from a distillery this small are limited by nature. Pour it neat and leave the ice alone.
